Distributed Charging System

Meaning

A distributed charging system, also known as a split architecture or satellite system, is an EV charging configuration that separates the central power conversion hardware from the user interface. Unlike “all-in-one” units, this system consists of a centralised Power Unit (the “engine room”) and multiple slim Satellite dispensers located at the parking bays.

This architecture allows for dynamic power management, where a shared pool of energy is intelligently routed from the central cabinet to various vehicles based on their real-time demand. In the UK, distributed systems are increasingly favoured for motorway service stations and fleet depots due to their small physical footprint at the point of charge, high scalability, and superior reliability through component isolation.”
