NACS (North American Charging Standard)
Meaning
“NACS, officially standardised as SAE J3400, is a compact EV charging connector that handles both AC and DC charging through a single 5-pin interface. Originally developed by Tesla, it has become the unified standard for the North American market, adopted by nearly all major automakers by 2026. While the UK and Europe continue to use the Type 2 and CCS2 standards, NACS is notable for its lightweight, ergonomic design and its ability to support power outputs up to 1 MW, significantly simplifying the charging experience across North American networks.”
