NEVI Formula Program

Meaning

The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program is a $5 billion federal initiative in the United States, established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). Its primary goal is to create a nationwide, interconnected network of 500,000 high-speed EV chargers by 2030, particularly along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs).

To qualify for NEVI funding (which covers up to 80% of project costs), charging stations must meet strict federal standards: each site must feature at least four 150 kW DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) capable of simultaneous operation, maintain a 97% annual uptime, and support open-access payment methods. Additionally, as of 2026, hardware must comply with Build America, Buy America (BABA) domestic content requirements and support advanced protocols like OCPP 2.0.1 and ISO 15118 for seamless “Plug & Charge” functionality.”
