Roaming
Meaning
“In the EV sector, roaming (or e-roaming) allows drivers to access and pay for charging across different networks using a single app, RFID card, or account. Much like mobile phone roaming, it eliminates “app fatigue” by enabling interoperability between various Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and e-Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs).
In the UK, roaming has become a standard industry requirement. Under the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023, all CPOs were mandated to connect to at least one roaming provider by November 2025. This ensures that drivers can travel nationwide without needing dozens of separate accounts. For fleet operators, roaming is particularly valuable as it consolidates all charging sessions into a single monthly invoice, regardless of which public network their drivers utilize.”
